Tyler Cox | Solid Rock

Tyler Cox | Solid Rock

10 years

I have taken the last month to reflect on the last 10 years of my life. 10 years ago this month I traveled to the Dominican Republic for the first time on a mission trip with Northwoods Community Church. Little did I know that that one trip would change my life forever. Before that trip I had an interest in missions, I liked to serve. My school did mission days once a month, and I always looked forward to those days. There are different ways that God worked in my life on each one of my trips.

On that very first mission trip, I remember hearing God’s voice distinctively telling me I would live here one day. This was crazy because looking back to the first few days of my first trip I was terrified. I had never traveled outside of the country and had no understanding of life outside the United States. On that trip, God opened up my heart to a new level of serving, and I am so thankful to have been able to serve in some capacity with Solid Rock over the last 10 years.

It’s still hard for me to believe that I live here. It took me many years of learning and growing in my faith for God to finally call me here. Honestly, if it weren’t for the many trips that I did, and assisting the guesthouse hosts with various intern tasks, I never would have thought I was capable of doing the job I do today. God knew that I needed to see I was capable of doing the job to then call me here.

The memories I have made, and the relationships that have formed because of this country will last a lifetime. I feel so blessed to have been able to listen to God’s voice in my head and be able to pursue missions the way I did at such a young age. Proverbs 2:1-5 says “My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of theĀ LordĀ and find the knowledge of God.” With that being said, I want to encourage you to listen to the voice of God in your own life. What is He trying to teach you today? God has you where you are for a specific reason. What is that reason? Is it to share His word with someone at work, your family, your neighbor? What has He been nudging you to do? I want to encourage you to seek him daily, and you will find out.

Now, let’s take a trip down memory lane and look at the photos from the last 10 years.
