A day in the life

Another month has come and gone. I know, I start almost every month saying the same thing. I just find it so crazy how fast each month goes. This month is no different. We hosted five university teams over the course of three weeks. I would say it was the most full month of guests yet. Over the course of the last three weeks, I found myself answering the question “what does a typical day look like for you.” Honestly, every day is different. I have things that I may want to accomplish that day, it may get done, it may not. I find myself busy every day, even if I have no big agenda for the day. In January of 2020, I wrote a blog about being flexible HERE. I have to remind myself that things do not always go as planned, and that is ok.

So what did a day in my life look like over the past month? Mondays are one of my busiest days of the week, so I thought I would walk you through what this day is like.

  • 5:15 – Alarm goes off for the first time, and I hit snooze
  • 5:25 – Get up and go open the kitchen
  • 5:30 – 6:10 – Make coffee, open doors, wipe down tables, do leftover dishes, get lunch station out and ready, set out dishes, and talk with the Gregoria and Neyse about the meals for the day
  • 6:10 – 6:40 – Get ready, brush teeth, do devotions, and let Osa outside
  • 6:40 – 7:00 – Set out breakfast, ring the meal bell, do devotions with the group, and announce what will happen that day
  • 7:00 – 7:20 – Morning devotions with our Dominican staff that will be working during the week
  • 7:20 – 7:40 – Restock lunch line, check breakfast line to see if more food needs to be made, teach the group how to get their water ready for their workday
  • 7:40 – 8:00 – Start getting the group to get ready for their work day
  • 8:00 – Call and order 10 – 15 more water jugs
  • 8:05 – Begin cleaning up from the morning
  • 8:30 – Eat breakfast
  • 8:45 – Chat with other SRI staff, make plans for the week, check on grades for school
  • 9:00 – 12:30 – Play with Osa, make the grocery list, go to the grocery store and run other errands, organize and get things ready for lunch, wait for the water to be delivered
  • 12:30 – 1:30 – Lunch at the guesthouse (If there is a team working on construction)
  • 1:30 – 3:30 – Prepare a snack for group, make dessert for the dinner meal, and relax)
  • 3:30 – 4:30 – Group arrives back to the guesthouse and set out snack, chat with the group about how their day went
  • 4:30 – 5:00 – Spend time in my room to relax before its time to start dinner
  • 5:00 – 5:45 – Prepare dinner, wipe down tables, set out plates and bowls
  • 5:45 – 6:00 – Dinner announcements and go over nightly activities
  • 6:00 – 7:00 – Dinner
  • 7:00 – 8:00ish – Vendor night (Monday Only) – (Local vendors come to the guesthouse to sell their handmade items) we also exchange money on Mondays
  • 8:00 – My goal to head up to my room for the evening.

This is just an example of what a typical day looks like, as I said before things pop up, and I have to be flexible! Each day looks a little different, but for the most part, the same schedule takes place. I am so thankful for my work with Solid Rock, and that God has called me to this place to be a stepping stone for His ministry.

This week we are not hosting a team. It will be nice to relax, and prepare for our busy summer schedule. I plan to take Osa on lots of walks, and work on training!

Prayer Requests:

  • Spanish (I still have so much to learn)
  • School (Big sermon project coming up)
  • Health for myself and teams
  • A great summer!
