After one year and roughly two months, we finally had our first team on the ground! It felt surreal to be back to work, and I loved every minute of ministry with the group. Although it was difficult to get used to my alarm going off at 5:20 every day, I still loved having the opportunity to serve once again. I started the process of getting the guesthouse ready for the group about two weeks before their arrival. I am so thankful for Margo and Gregoria, who worked so hard to make this process as smooth as possible over the last year. Throughout the last year, they continually checking on the rooms as well as prepping for their week of service.

I loved hearing from all those I work with and how excited they were for our groups to return. From our fruit delivery man to the owners of the restaurant Bienvanidas, people were so excited. Although this week wasn’t quite as normal as a team would have been a year ago, the new normal felt good.

The group traveled from North Carolina, and I loved doing ministry with them. The volunteers consisted of volleyball players and their moms. They worked around the guesthouse, so I felt like I was able to really get to know all of the people on the team.

It felt weird to once again be in the kitchen and working 15 hours a day, but as weird as it felt, life quickly began to feel normal again.

On June 17th I celebrated my birthday with some of my best friends here in San Juan. My friends spoiled me with good food and good company. I wanted the day to be chill, and it was just that.

San Juan has been getting a lot of rain lately, which I love because it normally cools everything off. A few weeks ago, during one of the storms, it began to hail. This was something I hadn’t experienced here in the DR before. I am thankful for God’s beauty in everything here. The mountains, beach, rain, the people, I could go on and on. God is so good. He is faithful and provides.

So much has happened in the last month, it’s hard to even remember everything. However, those are some of my biggest highlights this month.

Next month I look forward to having another group here at the guesthouse and also attending two of my best friend’s weddings here in San Juan.
