Perks of being in the US

The past three months sure have gone fast for me because I have enjoyed the blessing of being home with my family. On the other hand, this time has gone slowly because it has been so unsettling and challenging for the world that we live in. It has been hard because my plans had me in the Dominican Republic, but God’s plans were different. One of the blessings that I have seen God work in, is God allowing me to work hard on my studies. If you did not already know, I am currently pursuing a degree from Grand Canyon University and studying Christian Studies with an emphasis on Global Ministry. I have been able to make good progress toward getting my degree. I have roughly a year and a half left. Currently, I am taking a class on Christian Ethics, which has been interesting because we have learned so much about topics that are going on in our world. I have also been able to spend some time focusing on my Spanish, learning through the app Duolingo. I am excited because through these studies, I have confidence that God is preparing me for what is ahead. This makes me think of Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” What an amazing promise the Lord has given us. I hope this verse can encourage you as well, because God has a perfect plan for each of us, as we seek Him with all of our hearts.  Jeremiah 29:13” You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

During this time, I have been working closely with the SRI staff, both in the DR, and in the US. Our American staff has bi-weekly meetings to talk about the ministry of SRI. I have also been in contact with people on the ground in San Juan. Our staff, and my friend Kailey have been checking in on the guesthouse to be sure that things are ready when we return and are able to have teams again. I am so thankful for them! They say that things are improving in San Juan. Please pray that this continues.

Some other things that have kept me busy are going on many walks with my dogs, and helping my close friends who are building a home. A highlight of my week is watching church online with my family. On Sundays, after church, we always make a big breakfast. I have been keeping up on my cooking skills, making lots of dinners for my family, and just enjoying time in the kitchen. I will say that a perk of being in the United States is Chick-Fil-A. I had no idea how much I loved that place! If I could bring one restaurant back with me to the DR, I would choose Chick-Fil-A. A few weeks ago my mom and I also worked on planting a garden in our yard! We planted tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and a variety of herbs. It even looks like I’ll be home to enjoy some of the vegetables this year. I began door dashing (food delivery service) with a friend, and has been a fun time to reconnect with one of my best friends, Noah. Last weekend we went to a lake and enjoyed the day fishing on the boat. Rio was able to go, and he was able to swim in the lake!

That is all for now. I pray that you and your family are staying safe and healthy!
